John L. Harris Obituary

John L. Harris was born on March 1, 1948 in Walton County, Georgia to the union of Leroy and Floretta Harris. He was the second oldest of six children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Floretta Harris.

John attended Robert A. Taft High School and later attended Ohio College of Applied Science where he studied architectural technology and mechanical drawing. He also attended Scarlet Oaks Technical School for construction.

He served in the U.S. Army for 3 years including a one-year duty in Vietnam.  He received an honorable discharge.

John was employed by Southern Ohio Fabricators, Inc in 1978. He worked there as a Welder Assembly Specialist for 32 years and retired in 2004.  John was president of Local Union 6413 and Chairman of the Grievance Committee.

John’s spiritual journey began at the First Liberty Baptist Church located in downtown Cincinnati where he was a member for many years.

He later attended The Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Church where he received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost on June 30,1979.

John served in numerous capacities at Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Church including:  Radio Broadcast Announcer for “The Water Way Hour”, Sunday School Teacher, Advocate for Teen Academy Youth Group, Trustee, Deacon, Brotherhood Chairman and Marriage Ministry.

John had a passion for landscaping and yard work. He kept a meticulous lawn. He enjoyed making sweet potato pies. He was assistant football, basketball and track coach.  John was competitive and hated to lose!

John and Nancy were joined together in holy matrimony on August 11,1979. This union was blessed with five children: Teraie, Demoin, Steve, Nathan, and Jhanel. John made his transition on Thursday, November 25, 2021 on Thanksgiving morning. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Nancy, of 42 years, children: Teraie (Steve), Demoin, Steve, Nathan (Charece), and Jhanel (Dorsey), a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
