John W. Sofer, Sr., transitioned to Heaven on July 5, 2021.
He was married to Rose Sofer (deceased), Dorothy Sofer, and Connie Sofer (deceased). He was the father of Marvin Sofer (deceased 2018), Bonita Britten (deceased 2006), Charlene Sofer Hatchett, Darlene Branham, and John Sofer, Jr. He leaves grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. His parents were Frank, Sr. and Martha Sofer. He was the fifth child of the couple. His siblings, Frank Sofer, Jr, Lillie Wills, Martha Scott, and Edward R. Sofer, preceded him in death.
He graduated from Woodward High School. His career spanned numerous decades and he faithfully served the U.S Postal Service (USPS) as a letter carrier. When he retired from the USPS he served as a security guard and volunteered as a driver for a local entity that served the elderly. He was a member of Zion Temple First Pentecostal Church (ZTFPC) for decades and was active in its Men’s Ministry. He also was faithful in volunteering as a bus driver for his church.
He is fondly remembered by ZTFPC members and his friends. The family is grateful to them and other persons, professionals, and agencies who faithfully provided care during the latter years of his life. His niece, Dr. Regina E. Sofer, is especially grateful for Dr. Zachary Thurman, his primary care physician who provided exceptional and compassionate care, the steadfastness of Brian Flowers and members of Home Health Care by Black Stone, the diligence of Preston Charles Funeral Home, and his loyal friend, Gary Leach.
