JOHNNY CARTER, JR., 80, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 20, 1945, Johnny lived a life marked by faith, service and purpose, leaving behind a legacy that touched countless hearts.
Johnny was born in Birmingham, AL, to the late Johnny Carter Sr. and Beatrice Ann Carter. A strong man of God, he embraced life with warmth, wisdom, and a genuine love for people. His unforgettable baritone laughter filled every room he entered – family and friends could recognize it instantly, even before they saw him. Known for his timely words of encouragement and heartfelt insight, Johnny had a way of speaking life into others exactly when they needed it most.
A gifted singer and guitarist, Johnny shared his musical talent in a local Gospel Group during his mid-years. His spiritual journey deepened when he was baptized and became a member of St. Stephens Church in Walnut Hills, where he served faithfully as a Deacon before becoming an Ordained Minister.
Johnny’s heart for service extended far beyond the church walls. He ministered faithfully to residents in nursing homes, individuals in halfway houses and members of the homeless community. Through every prayer, song, and message of hope, he shared the love of Jesus Christ and dedicated his life to spreading the Gospel.
Johnny was also a devoted and hardworking provider. He began his career at Metropolitan Housing, where he served the community with dedication. He later joined Senior Services, where he worked faithfully until his retirement after 38 years of service. His dedication to helping others – professionally, spiritually, and personally – Was a defining hallmark of his life.
On December 31, 1992, Johnny married the love of his life, Mrs. Marlene Carter. Together, they shared a beautiful, faith-filled marriage that lasted nearly 33 years. Their partnership was a true reflection of love, devotion and mutual support and they shared many cherished moments together with family and friends.
Johnny was preceded in death by his brothers, Larry and Anthony, his sister, Patricia and his daughter, Karen.
He leaves behind: his devoted wife, Mrs. Marlene Carter; his children, Robert Lee, Yvette, Angela, Jonta (Melissa) and Joshua; his stepchildren, Erica, Reggie and Kenneth; 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. His siblings, Michael (Audrey) and Ronald (Brenda) survive him, along with his brothers-in-law, Mevin and Perry (Karen) and his sister-in-law, Brenda (Larry).
Johnny Carter, Jr.’s life was one of faith, devotion, service and deep love for his family. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
