Judia Mae Vann Obituary

Monday, April 19, 1943 Judia Mae made her grand entrance into this world. Born to Elizabeth Vann in Cincinnati, Ohio. Judy was loved and nurtured by Lizzie Vann and Grandma Agnes Evans.

Judy received her education at the local schools and graduated from Robert A. Taft, class of 1961. Judy went on to attend University of Cincinnati earning her Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work.

Judy loved Classical music and wanted to be an Opera Singer but was encouraged to find something more suitable for people of color. So, she pressed her way to the YWCA and there she started changing lives.

Judy would go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure the kids of the West End were not left behind.  After the Y, an opportunity became available for a job with the Federal Government in the Social Security Division and the rest was history.

Judy was a fabulous make-up artist and would have you completely sold on Aularale Cosmetics. KIVA, Inc was just one of her many entrepreneurial endeavors.

Judy did a phenomenal job crafting ceramics for relatives and friends. She was an absolute beast in the kitchen, oftentimes cooking special requests for family and friends.  Judy thought it was the least she could do to help the marginalized with her amazing meals as well.

Judy lent her voice to various musical groups in the Greater Cincinnati area to include The Melloaires 1st Narrator and Lead Soprano, The Greater Cincinnati Choral Union, The Willie Hawkins Singers, A featured soloist with Mastro Wylie Howell at the St. Joseph Catholic Church (West End) and The Legendary Grammy Award Winning Charles Fold Singers. It was not unusual on any given Sunday for Judy, Mary Blake and Dr. Bobby Gazaway to be presented in musical recitals at churches across Metro Cincinnati.

Her church affiliations were Rose Chapel Baptist, Brown Chapel AME, Lee Chapel AME, Pilgrim Baptist, Mt. Olive Holy Temple and Triumph Christian Center.,,Judy developed a beautiful relationship with Pastor Lesley Jones and The Truth and Destiny UCC

Out of all that Judy accomplished in life, her greatest accomplishment was being a mother to Imani Judia Vann. She was most proud and honored to love and nurture Imani.

Judy was preceded in death by her beloved Mom and Grandmother, sister: Geraldine, brother: Gerald, nephew: Eric, sister in-law: Jessie Mae.  Friends: John Williams, Kathy Johnson, Bobby King, Vertis Price, Phil Jackson, Willie Hawkins, Jimmie Combs, Earnestine Robinson, John Sutherland and
