Karen Goodwin Ivery Obituary

Karen Goodwin Ivery was born in Syracuse, NY on the 15th day in June 1985 to her proud parents, Casey Goodwin, Jr. and Yvonne Allen Goodwin. She was the youngest of their two children and her brother, Lloyd Goodwin was the eldest. As a child growing up, she enjoyed taking care of her doll collection, reading, solving math problems and playing board games, especially when she was winning. Her young childhood interests, activities and compassion earned her the affectionate nickname of “Karebear.”

Karen’s formal education began in the Syracuse City School System. While there, she was not only a straight “A” student, but was also recruited to participate in the citywide Gifted Student Program. When her family moved to Nashua, NH, Karen continued to achieve high recognition in her new school system. As a high school student, she was inducted into the National Honor Society, graduated in the top 10% of her class and completed several college-level courses. After high school, Karen was accepted by every college to which she applied. Due to the close bond to her brother, Lloyd, she followed his footsteps and attended Case Western University in Cleveland, OH. Upon college graduation, she received the honor, Summa Cum Laude, a distinction granted to the highest performers of the graduating class.

In keeping with her Karebear nature, Karen chose employment opportunities which helped to assist, develop, nurture and protect others, especially children and young adults. These positions were residential counselor at Boys Hope Girls Hope, case worker at New Hampshire Child and Protective Services and customer service representative /intern manager at Fidelity Financial Services.

Karen met Terrence Ivery while residing in Ohio and after a heartfelt courtship, they were married on May 12, 2012. The marital union was blessed with their only child, Greyson Ernest Ivery. As does Terrence, Karen dearly loved and cared for Greyson.

Those left to cherish her memory are: her son, Greyson Ivery; long-term partner, Terrence Ivery; mother, Yvonne Allen Goodwin; father, Casey Goodwin, Jr.; brother, Lloyd Goodwin (Crystal); niece, Genevieve Goodwin; uncle, Abdullah Sabir (Valerie); aunts, Clara Wilson (Barry Sr.) who is also one of Karen’s godmothers, Annervia Good-win (Norman Brown) and Tarsha Goodwin; brothers-in-law, Stephen Canty and Carl Freeman; sister-in-law, Barbara Moore; Karen’s other godmother, Lisa Lewis; best friend, Danyelle Braswell-Lopez; and a host of other friends and cousins.
