Kathleen was born on August 28th in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Hewitt Dudley Drain and Virginia Proctor Drain. The eldest daughter, she graduated high school—where she and John were crowned Prom King and Queen—and went on to earn her Associate Degree in Child Development and pass the State Board examination.
On May 2, 1987, Kathleen was joined in holy matrimony to John Earl Maples.
In 1994, she opened a family daycare center, Kathy’s Care. She was deeply passionate about working with and caring for children and was always dedicated to helping families in any way she could. A talented and gifted woman, Kathleen loved cooking meals to feed both her family and the broader community. She made blankets for senior citizens and, every Thanksgiving, she and John cooked turkeys and pans of dressing to deliver to local soup kitchens.
Kathleen’s greatest gift was her selfless service to others. She frequently helped pay bills, provided transportation, and donated furniture, clothes, and food. She even gifted weddings and rings to couples, never asking for anything in return.
Above all, Kathleen was enthusiastic about her children serving God. She kept them deeply involved in church auxiliaries, including choir, ushering, Vacation Bible School, prayer, and Bible study.
Whatever school activities, sports, or arts they pursued, God always came first, and she attended every single event her children were part of. Together with her sisters and children, she organized family dinners, reunions, and special holiday gatherings, establishing the annual 4th of July "Feed the Community Day" with her sons and daughters.
Kathleen loved watching the Tree of Life Church services on TV every Sunday. She really enjoyed shopping and traveling with her family—including trips to Augsburg, Germany, and across the United States.
Kathleen D. Maples peacefully departed this life on September 8th, 2026. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
