LC Kindred Obituary

Brought Forth With A Joyful Cry…

Lawrence Curtis Kindred, affectionately known as LC was born on December 10, 1946 in Opelika, Alabama, to the late Lewis and Ida Bell Kindred.

Transformed In His Glory…

On Friday, March 10, 2023, our beloved Mr. LC Kindred entered in an eternal and peaceful rest at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

When LC was in the third grade, his older brother, LV Kindred moved his younger siblings to Middletown, Ohio. This would be his home until the latter years of his life.

He was a member of The People’s Friendship Church, now known as Tried Stone Baptist Church, where at a young age LC was baptized and sang in the choir along with some of his childhood friends. After the passing of his dear Mother Ida Bell, while he was still in high school, he would be raised by his Aunt Ella Vesta and Uncle Vuree Henderson, Sr.

Mr. LC Kindred was an uncanny talent in sports. He was a prominent and an exceptionally skilled athlete. He excelled in Football, Basketball and Track. LC served as one of the Captains of the Middletown High School Football team, where he led the team to many victories as a premier running back. Through his athletic abilities, he would receive a scholarship to Maryland State University, upon graduating from high school. At Maryland State, he would also excel as an athlete, and would receive an invitation to try out for the professional football team, The Boston Patriots, but the Army had other plans.

During his time at Maryland State, one summer break LC went home with a friend to Chesapeake, Virginia. While hanging out at the park, a young lady went strolling by and caught LC’s eye. He couldn’t take his eyes off her and asked his friend “Who Is That?” LC was then introduced to the beautiful Regina Mae Purvis. From that day forward, they have been together. His last 6 months of college, LC and Regina got married. They celebrated 54 years of marriage.

LC was drafted in 1967 by The United States Army, shortly after getting married. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airbourne Unit. LC was also trained as an Expert Rifleman. After his tour in Vietnam, LC and Regina would be stationed in Tacoma, Washington. Mr. LC Kindred was Honorably Discharged in

1970. The decorations he received during his time in the Army were National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, The Army Commendation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and two Overseas Service Bars.

When returning to Middletown in 1970 with his family, LC acquired employment at Armco (AK) Steel and was employed there for 30 years, until he retired.

LC loved fishing and spent many days and nights with family and friends fishing at Smith Park, Armco Park, the ocean or wherever he could cast out his fishing pole in a body of water. He would pass on his passion for fishing to his sons, daughters and grandsons. He enjoyed all types of music whether it was R&B, Country, Jazz, Gospel and Blues. BB King was one of his favorite artists. LC also enjoyed reading and stay-ing up to date on current events, politics and sports, especially baseball and football. You could often find him at Smith Park, Barnitz Stadium, High Schools or College games watching his sons, daughters, nephews and grandchildren play different sports. His second love was barbecuing. LC was considered a Pit Master by his family and friends. One of his favorite things to do was barbecue for family and friends of the community. All his children acquired that cooking talent to carry on his legacy. And let’s not forget, he was also a master at playing spades and loved to make jokes at the opposite team, just knowing they were going to lose.

Mr. LC Kindred was a man of honor, valor, strength, loyalty and integrity. These would be the core values he would instill in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It is a legacy he would leave for generations to come. LC would often share conversations with his children of the love he had for Christ and being saved. He had a strong and loving bond with his family, friends and loved ones. Wherever LC went, worked or socialized, he was genuinely loved, well respected in the community and will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lewis and Ida Bell Kindred; loving son, Lawrence Curtis, Jr. (CC) Kindred; brothers, LV Kindred, Zelious Kindred, Lewis Kindred, Arthur Jernigan, Jr., Rayfield Jernigan, Gerald Jernigan and Stanley Jernigan; and aunt and uncle, Ella Vesta and Vuree Henderson, Sr.
