LaDonald "LaDon" Prophett Obituary

LaDonald “LaDon” Prophett was born on March 10, 1957 in Cincinnati, OH, the first child born to the late Sol Prophett and Lillie Mae Milton, both of whom preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his loving wife, Beverly Prophett (née Reese), his sister, Bernice Gartrell and brothers, Walter Lee, Sol Jr., George (Mitch), Stanley and Edward Prophett.

LaDon professed Christ at an early age and was baptized in the faith at Beulah Missionary Baptist Church, where he remained a member for over 50 years. He was a member of the Beulah Baptist Junior Choir, the Junior Usher Board, the Junior Male Chorus (the Belle Skinner Singers), and a dedicated member of the Beulah Baptist Male Chorus.

A graduate of Walnut Hills High School, LaDon was a very intelligent man who continued his education by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.

Guided by studies in Electrical Engineering, LaDon was a master journeyman electrician for over 30 years. He was a proud member of I.B.E.W. Local 212 and served as Union Steward. LaDon’s work as an electrician working for various jobs around the Greater Cincinnati area enabled him to perfect his craft. With this craft, he would then go on to complete many side jobs for family and friends.

During LaDon’s youth, he joined the Prince Hall Chapter Order of Pythagorans, a youth group sponsored by the Prince Hall Masons. As an adult, he rejoined as an advisor to the youth. He was very dedicated to the youth of Prince Hall Chapter since joining in 1998 and was the President of the Advisory Board from 2009 to 2015.

LaDon became a Master Mason of Elisha Lodge #106 on April 20, 1998 and was a proud and active member for 23 years. He was elected as the Worshipful Master of Elisha Lodge #106 in 2005. LaDon loved Masonry; he worked hard and was very dedicated. He held several offices including the Ritualistic Chairman of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Ohio from 2017 until present(2021).

LaDon’s masonic journey led him to become a member of Sinai Temple #59 and a member of King Solomon Consistory #20. He was elevated to the 33rd degree in Masonry in 2019 and became the Secretary for his entire class — “Basil L. Sands Class of 2019”.

LaDon married the love of his life, Beverly Reese on August 1, 2015. Both would often tell the story of how he pursued and wooed her “on her job” and eventually won her heart (for sure). She was his soulmate, his best friend, his “EVERYTHING”. Together again…Everlasting LOVE!!!

LaDon leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Artega Luiz (Laquetta), Preston Lee, Kendall LaDon (Carmen), William (Heidi) and Rayshawn, as well as his bonus children, Adam (Shani), Wayman, ShaRhonda and Doneshia; his brothers, Raymond (Renee), Raffel (Sonya), Gerald and Jason, all of Cincinnati, OH and Dwight (Charlotte) of Washington, DC; his adopted siblings, Craig, Marie, Rachel and Bethany; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; and a host of precious nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and devoted friends.
