Leon Thompson, Sr. was born on July 19, 1951 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Alfred Thompson, Sr. and Nannie Hunn Thompson. Leon was known to everyone as Butch. He departed this life on December 8, 2024.
Butch attended Lincoln Heights High School where he graduated Class of 1970. Butch went on to work at the Foundry, Texco and NSG Security where he retired in 2016. Butch was a hard worker and always took care of his family. He believed family was very important. Butch made an impact on everyone, but never treated anyone different. He knew how to get everyone laughing.
Butch met Arnelle in 1977. Together they went on to raise a family of six children. He leaves to cherish his memory: Jacqueline Walton (William Jr.), Angela Akil (Naim), Leon Thompson, Jr. and Sasha Collins. He was pre-ceded in death by his wife, Arnelle Lynn Collins; his son, Aaron Maurice Collins; and daughter, Tonya Laurel Thompson.
Butch has 14 grandchildren: Auriel, Cierrah (Cameron), Quincy, Alyah, Robert, Iyonna, Zyaira, Janelle, Aaron Jr., Marciyah, Dontre’y, TreMhir, Anthony and Sa’Ryah; seven great-grandchildren, Carel, Aubrey, Kai, August, Kalani, Zadyn and Yazmaine; 16 siblings, Bobby (Ernestine), Lawrence, Elaine, Margaret (Raymond), Patricia and Carolyn (John); four in-laws, Lisa Thompson, Urylee Thompson, Floyd Hurst and James Porter; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. A special thank you to Gerald Turner, his best friend/ brother. We love you.
He was preceded in death by Alfred, Rufus, Melvin, James Sr., Alvin, Nathaniel, Brenda, Willa Mae and Louanna.
