Leroy Almon Jr., affectionately known as “Lee”, was born on August 16, 1966. He was the cherished only child of Leroy Almon Sr. (deceased) and Etta Mae Lewis Almon. He was raised in Columbus, Ohio, where he attended Eastgate Elementary School, Clintonville Jr. High, and graduated from Northland High School in 1984. During his school years, Lee was active in football and tennis, and he displayed his musical talent by playing the saxophone in his high school band. He pursued higher education at Ohio State University, majoring in criminal justice.
In the early 1990s, Lee relocated to Dayton, Ohio, where he formed a loving bond with Jacqueline Porter, and together they welcomed their daughter, Jasmine Porter Almon. While living in Dayton, Lee worked at Dayton International Airport from 1994 to 1997.
Lee was known by family and friends for his intelligence, humor, and compassionate nature. Lee enjoyed exploring African American history, appreciating art and historical accounts that celebrated his heritage. His passions included music, gardening, and cooking—often creating delicious vegetarian dishes. Though Lee’s parents divorced when he was in elementary school, he and his mother Etta, made many happy memories, participating in local church and community activities, riding bicycles on Sunbury Road, playing numerous board games, and developing over the course of many years, Lee’s valuable collection of electric model train sets.
Despite facing health challenges over the last several years, Lee demonstrated resilience, independence, and a keen sense of self-direction. In 2022, he fulfilled his desire to move into his own residence, relocating to Seton Square North in Columbus, Ohio, where he successfully resided until he experienced a decline in his health. Lee peacefully departed this life on July 7, 2025.
Lee was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Almon Sr.; grandparents, William C. Lewis, and Maxine Lewis; uncle, William C. Lewis; and aunt, Mary Alice Smith.
He leaves behind his loving mother, Etta Mae Lewis Almon; his devoted daughter, Jasmine Aleeyah Porter Almon and her brother Jared VanQuinten Porter; grandson, Terrell Depree Porter; uncles, Edward W. Lewis (Gail), MaxWilliam SaekiLewis, Joseph A. Lewis; aunts, Julia Talley, Wanza Springer and Brenda Greenway, as well as a host of other family and friends who will cherish his memory.
