Lessie Mae Sherrill Obituary

Lessie was born August 10, 1937 to Coley Lee Jordan and Minnie Jewel Fayson in Castleberry, AL. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Providence Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Mack Brown. Throughout her life, she participated in church activities to include singing in the choir, mission circle, women’s ministry and usher board.
Roy and Lessie joined in marriage on January 14, 1984. They embarked on 36 years of building a loving and respectful life together. Both united with Olivet Baptist Church in March of 2013 under the leadership of Servant Harold Crump.
Lessie retired from the IRS after 27 years of service. She then went to work in retail for 10 years. She enjoyed life, bowling, traveling and time with family and friends. Retiring once again, Lessie spent another five years volunteering at Music Hall as an usher and with Jewish Hospital in Customer Service.
Lessie was preceded in death by brothers, Coley and Emery Jordan and sisters, Dorothy Wright and Carol Peoples.
Lessie is survived by: a devoted husband, Roy; daughters, Denise Powell, Alethea Hughes (John) and Jacqueline Hill; three brothers, Willie
Calvin (Tempie), John E. Peoples (Nelly) and James Peoples; four grandchildren, Curtis Hill, John W. Hughes III, Christian Dodge and Joseph Hameed-Hill; a host of nieces, nephews, adopted family members and close friends.
