Lucy Boose Boulton

April 12, 1940 ~ January 17, 2023 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Obituary

Lucy Boose Boulton was born on April 12, 1940, in Hickory, Mississippi to Henry Clay Boose and Velma (Hill) Boose as the seventh of what would grow to become a loving and close-knit family including 13 children. She lived a full, gracious, and faith-filled life before peacefully transitioning on January 17, 2023, to join her heavenly Father and the loved ones who preceded her in death including her parents and five of her siblings, Rosie (Boose) Lewis, Robert Boose, Henry Boose, Willie (Boose) Cross, and Johnny Boose, each of whom she loved with all her heart, and fondly recalled throughout her life.

Lucy was known as a spirited young person who excelled in everything that she pursued, including academics and athletics.  In addition to earning accolades as a bright student who set an example for others, Lucy also carried her weight in the fields on her family’s farm, often picking crops faster than anyone else, while also mastering the kitchen and southern biscuits, as the family cook.

Lucy moved from Mississippi to Chicago, Illinois in 1958 as a young bride after marrying Lee Otis Boulton where they bore two daughters, Renée and Sheilah.  Lucy and her daughters often referred to themselves as the “three musketeers,” and by her example, she taught them the values of faith, love of family, service to others, education, and a strong work ethic.  During the girls’ college years, and while also working full-time, Lucy earned her bachelor’s degree, fulfilling a long-held personal goal, and once again walking side-by-side with her daughters.

As a devoted family member, Lucy served as the Boose family historian amassing thousands of records, film, and photos of the Boose and Hill family lineage, and enthusiastically sharing her findings with anyone who would inquire.  A humble, but strong and faith-filled woman, Lucy showed her devotion to others throughout her life through her charitable contributions and involvement in her churches and the community.

Known to her grandchildren as “Grandi,” Lucy was a loving and energetic grandparent.  She joined them on their field trips, cheered for them at their athletic events, and was always ready to serve their favorite meals.  Lucy loved it all and was a steady positive influence, offering words of wisdom, a hug, encouragement, and her trademark pieces of Brach’s peppermint candy.

Lucy had many interests and pursuits.  She was a career woman, a community volunteer and servant of the church, a genealogist, a photographer, a golfer, an artist, a cook, a seamstress and an avid sports fan.  But most of all, she was an honorable, kind, gentle, intelligent, courageous, and fiercely loyal woman who fulfilled every role in her life, particularly her family roles, with pure love.  Lucy will be truly, truly missed and is survived by: her daughters, Renée (Marty) Dunn and Sheilah Boulton-Harris; her grandchildren, Ron Harris, Ryan Harris, Alyssa (Thomas) Dunn, Cameron Dunn, and Sheleah Harris; her great-grandchildren, Rylan Harris and Rowen Harris; her surviving siblings, Ann (Elijah) Buffington, Shirley (John) Dunnaway, Arthur (Rubye) Boose, Rev. Ruby (Deacon Kermit) Thames, Charles (Cynthia) Boose, Bernard Boose, and James Boose, and an absolute host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loved ones, and friends.
