Mamie Ruth Sellers Obituary

We give honor to the extraordinary woman, Mamie Ruth (McCants) Sellers (age 97). Beloved Matriarch of the Sellers family. Born August 2, 1927 in Grady, Alabama. She entered the gates of heaven on Sunday, March 16, 2025. She was the fifth born child of thirteen children to the union of the late Willie Henry and Ethel McCants.

Mamie married John Sellers on April 27, 1946 and moved to Ada, Alabama. Eleven children was born to this union. Six sons and five daughters.  John and Mamie relocated their family to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1963. This marriage lasted for 78 years, only to end in death.

Mamie accepted Christ at a very early age and was baptized at Rockdale Baptist Church in Grady, Alabama. She was educated in the Grady school system. Upon relocating to Cincinnati, Ohio, she joined the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Authur Watson where she served on the Adult Usher Board.

She attended church regularly under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Cecil Ferrell until her health began to fail. When she could no longer attend church service she would listen to service via Social Media. There were times she would get excited to hear Pastor Ferrell preaching and would loudly express herself by saying “Preach Pastor.”

Mamie Loved the Lord, and often told her family she wasn’t worried about anything because she was in the Lord’s hand and He was going to take care of her. She loved her children and they were the center of her joy. She deeply cared for her family, grandchildren and even outside children. She had high standards and instilled those values in her family.

Her hobbies included Word Search Puzzle, and coloring books. She enjoyed different types of “gadgets” and had her own private collections. She was an excellent cook, creating her own recipes. Two of her specialties were her Cornbread Dressing and Chicken and Dumplings. Her personality was exemplified by her unique style of dressing, matching from head to toe, which she passed on to her daughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents and four children: John, Ernest, James and Theresa and eleven siblings.

She leaves to remember and celebrate her, Seven children: Julius, Queenie, Ethel, Preston (Sharon) Sellers, all of Cincinnati, Mary (Rev.
