Marcia Wynn Hodges was born to the union of William and Janie Mae Hodges, on August 4, 1951, in Lincoln Heights, Ohio. She was the third of seven children; five sisters, Cassandra Williams, Janice Wilkinson (James), Wendy Baker, Karen Hodges (Kitt), Janie Turnbow (Chicken) and two brothers, Byron Hodges (Binnie) and Mylian Hodges, who pre-ceded her in death.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. Alphonso Williams at the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Lincoln Heights, Ohio and became a full fledged member. She served faithfully as an intricate part of the Rev. Alphonso Williams’ Scholarship Committee, Sunday School, Senior Choir, Baptist Young People’s Union (BYPU), and served on the Hospitality (kitchen) Committee. Above all, she was a gifted and out-standing Bible Study teacher at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorate of her uncle, the Rev. Dr. Oliver Willams.
Marcia began her education at Lincoln Heights Elementary and graduated from Mount Healthy High School, Class of 1969. She attended the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio where in 1973, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. Marcia was employed at Cincinnati Public Schools where
she taught the discipline of History at Western Hills and Hughes High Schools.
She attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio where she earned a Master of Education in 1997. At a separate facility, she assisted in developing the Teacher Evaluation System at CPS. She also counseled troubled youth within the CPS district at the Hillcrest Academy, and also served as a Union Representative in Cincinnati Public Schools district. She retired after 33 years of faithful service.
Marcia was united in Holy Matrimony to Rev. Clayton Waller, Jr. on January 19, 1991.
Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, William and Janie Mae Hodges; one grandson, Stephen (Nire) Robinson; and one nephew, Tyrus Williams.
She leaves to cherish in memory, her three daughters, Leah Janique Waller Bolaji (Peter), Nikima Waller Robinson and Britain Waller. She is also survived by: her devoted husband, Clayton; one uncle, Rev. Dr. Oliver Williams; four grandchildren, Naomi Wynn Folasade Bolaji, Jett Robinson, Karia and Isaiah Waller; seven nieces, Jevette Williams, Dawana Chambers Johnson (Greg), Deona Chambers Sitawi (Shenda), Tamara Chambers Hutchinson (David), MaShona Mitchell, Myla Hodges Perry (Nathan), Beige Hodges Ross (David) and Brean Hodges; eight nephews, Tyron
Williams (Snutt), Mylo Hodges, D’monn and Chadd Baker, Brandon Roberson, Byron Cooper, Douglas Cooper (Scotty) and Brice Hodges; one sister-in-law, Brenda Hodges Davis (Rodger); one son-in-law, Peter Bolaji; and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews, family and friends.
