Marlene L. Causey was born on January 3, 1932 in Temple, Georgia, the cherished first-born of three children born to the late Lewis and Earstine Luke. She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie E. Causey; her parents, Lewis and Earstine; her brother, Louis Luke, Jr.; brother-in-law, Homer Burnett; and daughter-in-law, Clarice Causey.
Her family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1935, where she was lovingly raised amidst a close-knit community. From an early age, Marlene’s faith was a guiding light in her life. She accepted Christ and joined Jones Tabernacle A.M.E. Church, which was later renamed St. Stephens A.M.E. Church. Her devotion to her church family was profound. She served faithfully on the Stewardess Board and sang in the choir for over 20 years, inspiring all with her beautiful voice and unwavering faith.
A proud graduate of Woodward High School, Marlene excelled academically and was a multi-sport athlete, showcasing her versatility, determination and competitive spirit. After high school, she attended The Ohio State University. Her work ethic and resilience were evident throughout her life. She dedicated 44 years of her career to the IRS, working tirelessly to provide for her family and leaving a lasting legacy of integrity and dedication.
She married Willie E. Causey in 1961. Together, they raised six children and a host of grand-children. They were instrumental to ensuring that their family put God first and education. They went on to be an instrumental part of the church and a staple of the community.
Marlene was a woman of resilience, strength and unwavering faith. She remained actively engaged in her church community and neighborhood until her health declined, shortly after her 93rd birthday. Her kindness, wisdom and compassionate spirit touched everyone she encountered.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith and devotion. Her memory will be forever cherished by: her children, Mr. David Luke, Mrs. Marsha D. Causey Chatman (Dwight), Mr. Dale Causey (Regina), Mr. Michael T. Causey (Paula), Mrs. Angela Y. Morris (Larry) and Mr. Terence L. Causey (Clarice); her sister, Mrs. Norma Burnett (Homer); her brother-in-law, W. J. Causey; her 15 grandchildren, Mr. Cornelius Causey, Master Sergeant Anthony C. Parks, Ms. Natasha A. Parks, Ms. Natoria D. Parks, Mr. DeAngelo A. Parks (Tamera), Ms. Sierra Collier, Mr. Daniel Blaine, Ms. DeAshia Causey, Ms. Danielle Taylor, Ms. Jessica Taylor, Ms. Mikal Causey, Ms. Taneya Causey, Mr. Travon Peacock, Ms. LeTeia Chatman and Ms. LeToya Chatman; and a host of great-grand-children, great-great-grandchildren and many other loving family members and friends.
