Marvin was the tenth of 13 children born to the late Mark Hannah and Ilia Mae Crain on January 31, 1945, in New Edinburg, Arkansas.
At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Piney Grove A.M.E. Church in New Edinburg, which was owned and built by his late grandfather, Allen Crain and others. Later, he joined Christ Emmanuel Christian Fellowship in Cincinnati, Ohio. During his 30 years as a member, he held the title of Trustee for a number of those years.
In 1963, after attending New Edinburg and Fordyce, Arkansas schools, Marvin graduated from J.E. Wallace School before moving to Cincinnati, Ohio where he worked for The Cincinnati Die Casting Company. In 1976, he began working for The Shepherd Chemical Company and on January 30, 2015, after a prestigious career, he retired as a Chemical Operator with 39 years of service.
In 1999, he met Lynette Rogers and was looked upon as father figure for her son, Stephen Rogers, Sr. and a grandfather figure for her grandchildren, Stephen Jr., Stephiana and Janyla.
Affectionately known as Wayne to his family, he was known to be the reliable one who kept things simple and encouraged others to do the same. Although his nephew, Derrick referred to him as ‘my Uncle Wayne’, he was often revered by his nieces and nephews as one of the ‘favorite’ uncles, not only because of his beautiful and genuine soul, but also because he wouldn’t give up a fuss if you needed him for anything.
Wayne was a man of few words who enjoyed and had a passion for music. He also loved to go on cruises and other types of vacations. But while home, if he wasn’t mentoring youth or out for dinner, you’d catch him relaxing and enjoying his favorite television programs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Odia V. Tisdale, Vodia (the late Elvin) Carroll, Azia Mac (the late Peter) Ray, Betty (the late Joe) Smith and Lydia (the late Richard) King; and brothers, Esters Crain, Mark Crain, Homer (Dicey) Crain and James (the late Rose) Crain. He leaves to cherish his memories: one brother, Billy (Carolyn Faye) Crain of Little Rock, AR; two sisters, Barbara Frederick of Cleveland Heights, OH and Carolyn (the late Alfred) Ray of Richmond Heights, OH; brothers-in-law, Herman Tisdale and Timothy Frederick; best friend Tom Hill; goddaughter, Tammy Burden; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
