Mary T. Thomas (Lay) was born October 6, 1942 in Statham, Georgia to Hubert Lay and Revonious (Locklin) Lay. She departed this life on April 8, 2026.
Mary was raised in Statham, Georgia and educated in Barrow County, Georgia. She accepted Christ at an early age and attend Barbers Creek Church in Statham, Georgia. On July 23, 1966, she married David L. Thomas. The couple then moved to Middletown, Ohio and 3 children were born, Melissa (Thomas) Bryant, Michael Thomas, and Danny Thomas all of Middletown, Ohio.
Mary worked at Crystal Tissue after she moved to Middletown until the birth of her 3rd child, then she became a stay-at-home mom until her oldest child, Melissa, graduated from high school. She then worked at Otterbein Retirement Home as a dietary aide until her retirement in 2015.
Mary had strong faith and loved the Lord and attended church regularly until her illness, last 2 churches she attended were Greater Faith and Word Alive World Ministries. Mary loved becoming a grandmother. Her grandson Samuel Caudell came to live with them at 2 years old and helping to raise him was a joy for her. The pot became sweeter when she became a great-grandmother. Mary enjoyed trips to Georgia every year to visit with her parents until their death, but the trips didn’t stop; they continued visiting with her sister, cousins and families on both her and her husband’s side of the family. She truly enjoyed sitting on the porch nearly every day until she fell ill. Mary would also enjoy walking every morning at Smith Park on nice days. She also enjoyed a good movie and her favorite shows to watch were westerns.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Revonious Lay, her only sibling/sister, Emma Lay. Her in-laws, Lloyd and Lucy Thomas; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Dee Thomas, E.L. Thomas, Nathaniel Thomas, Willie Gene Thomas, John Pete Thomas, and Robert Lee Thomas; sisters-in-law; Maebelle Hutchins, Evaliner Browning, and Mary Thomas, sadly along with nephews, nieces and cousins.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband, David L. Thomas; devoted and loving daughter, Melissa (Kenneth) Bryant, loving sons, Michael Thomas and Danny Thomas; grandchildren, Samuel Caudell, Gary Truss, and Will Hays; great-grandchildren, Quinton Hays, Amira Caudell, Willow Hays; sisters-in-law, Betty Beck, Ruby Martin, Sarah Carroll, Leola Thomas and Elizabeth Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
