The Obituary
Melvin S. Russell age 66 of Middletown, Ohio, passed away Monday, April 7, 2025 at his residence. Melvin was born March 3, 1959 in Middletown, Ohio to James A. Russell, Sr. and Alberta (Brown) Russell.
Melvin was raised and educated in Middletown, Ohio working all of his adult life for AK Steel formerly Armco. While he was working and even after retiring Melvin enjoyed watching football and basketball on all levels. Whether at his home or in Cleveland or Indianapolis. He was a big Cleveland Brown fans, and he loved going to see the Pacers as well. One of his favorite pastimes was going to the YMCA to get a workout in, and hitting the steam room, and shooting basketball; where he would put on a shooting display causing many walking on the track to stop and watch in awe as he would throw hook shots and shoot jumpers from all over place; mainly half court barely missing any shots. He would also be displaying the same skills and shooting at Douglas Park, and helping some young man or woman develop their basketball skills. He loved teaching others to shoot that jumper. Melvin also loved to cruise around in his car or truck with one of his best friends, his dog “Bandit”. Melvin took a lot of pride while cooking on the grill and using his special BBQ sauce that he learned how to make from his father.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother James, Jr., two nephew: Brandon Russell and James Jamie Russell; five great-nephews: Isaiah, Ellijah, James, Jaden, and Jacai; two great-nieces: Jailand and Jaile’, who he loved and adored; he also leaves three of his best friends who were always by his side: Duane Streeter, Rockney Carter, and Rev. Kendall Wright. He also leaves a host of other cousins, friends, other relatives and many friends.
