Mildred Williams Obituary

Mildred Williams (nee Jones) was born in Macon, Georgia December 22, 1920 to the late Rev. & Mrs. Calvin Jones. She spent her childhood years and young adult life in her hometown. She met and married the late William Kennedy from North Carolina. To this union three children were born. two who preceded her in death - Earnest Kennedy and Miriam K. West. Sylvia Kennedy is her only surviving child.

She and her family moved to Cincinnati in 1943 where those years were spent in Commingsville. After her children reached school age, she ventured into the working world. She attended the Betz 13usiness School and later went to nursing school and worked in the field of Mental Health as a Licensed Practical Nurse. working at Longview State Hospital. She retired from Longview after twenty-five years of service.

In 1955 she met and married the late Arthur W. Williams.

She joined the York Street United Methodist church soon after coming to Cincinnati. She worked in many ministries and sang in the choir. She later changed her membership to the Bond Hill United Methodist Church. She worked faithfully in many areas of the church- her favorite being singing in the choir. She always had a great love for music and choir singing.

She was a faithful member of New Vision and participated in different ministries and singing in the choir. She was very active in the negotiation of the merger of the two churches. She was very involved in community activities- the Ked Cross, Kennedy Heights Seniors, and the Cincinnati Federation of Colored Women. Because of her volunteer efforts, in 1996 she received the Fifth Third Bank Hall of Fame Recognition Honor. She was also recognized by the Speaking of Women's Health Organization for her volunteer work. For her services to the church and community, she received a Proclamation in October from the U.S. House of Representatives.

She leaves to celebrate her Homegoing and cherish her life, her daughter, Sylvia Kennedy; her only granddaughter, Melissa West; son-in-law John West. Fondly remembering her is Shirley Toler, Mildred's fondly adopted daughter. She leaves many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends to cherish her 103 years of life.
