Mildred Louise (Bailey) Harris was born on April 17, 1931 in Athens, Georgia to the union of the late Reid Bailey, Sr. and Mary Lou (Williams) Bailey. The youngest daughter of 12 children, Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, all 11 siblings (six sisters and five brothers), her husband, Harold W. Harris and her youngest child, Deborah Ann (Moten) Gatewood.
Mildred graduated from the Athens High and Industrial School in 1948, in Athens, Georgia.
Mildred enjoyed people, rather sitting around playing cards, listening to music, and always dancing or having a meal. She had an unlimited amount of love, laughter and joy to share. Whenever she was around family and friends, know a good time was guaranteed to be had. Her boisterous laugh could always be heard among the crowd’s chatter. There was no doubt Mildred was present.
Leaving to celebrate her life are: her children, Ernest and Freida; four grandchildren, LeQuita A. Greer(Kendall), Antwan J. Moten, Tionna D. Gatewood and Javon K. Moten; several great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Calvin R. Gatewood; one aunt, Minnie Smith of Spring, Texas; four sisters-in-law, Mildred Moten (Lawrence) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mary Joy Bailey (Reid Jr.), Joanne Bailey (John Sr.) of Chicago, Illinois and Ozell Bailey (Joe Sr.) of Cincinnati, Ohio; many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
