Nellie Moran, the ninth child of the Lee/Josephine Todd Family, was raised in a small town in Kentucky known as Brassfield and walked two miles each day just to get to the school bus for a ride and graduated from high school with high honors at the age of 16. Nellie joined the Christian Church at an early age and loved being in the “House of the Lord.” At the age of eight, she helped her family by working in the fields of Kentucky and soon afterwards, she began to work for a “private family” as a cook until she was 22 years of age.
Nellie met and married Albert Fee Moran in 1950 and traveled with him to Cincinnati, Ohio to set up their new home the following year. Albert and Nellie together produced seven beautiful children. They are, in order of birth: Jeffery, Alan, Anthony, Frances, Elizabeth and twins, Marvin and Marvea. She also shared a warm and special relationship with the spouses of her married children.
Nellie Moran, a twin herself, lost her sibling, Helen at infancy and she also had 14 other siblings, of which one is still alive, Pauline Todd. Praise the Lord.
Mrs. Moran soon found employment with the Keebler Cookie Factory and was later employed by General Electric Aircraft Engines, Inc. in Evendale, Ohio. She was the first female to work as an E.D.M. machine operator and steam drill operator with that company. In order to obtain that position, she had to go to night school to become certified in reading blue prints. During her tenure, she was presented large monetary awards for her suggestions on several occasions. Mrs. Moran was later upgraded to Steam Drill Machinist and in 1981, Nellie retired for medical reasons.
Nellie was also an Eastern Star and enjoyed the affiliation with one of her dearest friends from church, Mrs. Annie Pearl Hicks, who is fondly thought of as a member of the Moran family. In her social time, she was an avid card player and had a team that traveled for a long time. After retiring, Grandmother Nellie still watched and took her grandchildren when needed during the summer and even, school years.
Nellie was a defacto mother to all who needed her special touch as she loved making people happy, helping whenever she could, and always giving, whether it is your favorite desert, a greeting card, money, or just encouraging words. Her love for children led her, after retirement to volunteer as a Foster Grand-mother at Pleasant Ridge Elementary School where she shared her love with children for almost six years. Nellie’s love for children convinced her to become certified as an “In Home Child Provider.” She also loved to bake and made all her children and grand-children special treats for their birthdays each year until she was unable. Some of her delicious specialties are icebox lemon pie, rum cake, bourbon cake, apricot turnovers and peach cobbler. Every year, until her health declined, she gave a Christmas gift to all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and included any guest of other friends who visited. Mrs. Nellie Moran has 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Her legacy is blessed with grace from above.
Nellie attended Peace Baptist Church in Cincinnati where she was a member since 1963 and served her pastor and her church as a “prayer warrior”. Whenever there is a special prayer need, pastor, Reverend Gregory Chandler, Sr. would call on Nellie to take the case to the “Throne room of the Father” in intercession. When Pastor Chandler left Peace Baptist to guide and lead the WOCC (World Outreach Christian Church) ministry, Mrs. Moran and her family joined Chandler and has been under his guidance until her transition. With her guidance and encouragement, several of Mrs. Moran’s children are also members of WOCC and play active roles within the church body, as Associate Pastors, Praise Team Members, Ministry Directors, Pastors Aid Chairperson, Outreach Coordinators, Finance Ministry, Levite Ministry, Hospitality Committee and church Board Members, just to name a few. Her love of scripture was well known and she had many favorite bible verses that guided her for many years.
Mrs. Moran celebrated her formal 90th birthday with a banquet dinner with family, church members and other friends, hosted by her children and other family members in August 2018. A great time was had by all, praising God in song and prayer, beautiful tributes and a very delicious meal. It was a remark-able, moving and enjoyable day.
Her usual departure or closure greeting was an old saying…“see you later alligator” and your response would be…“after while crocodile.” And now we will share memories, hold on to our faith while we wait with blessed assurance to see her in the new day and for now, we can say, Good night, Good Night Ms. Nellie…We treasured you and will see you in the morning. To God Be The Glory.
Nellie Moran leaves to cherish her memory: her sister, Pauline Todd; children, Jeffrey (Helen) Moran, Alan Keith Moran, Anthony Dwight (Charlene) Moran, Sr., Frances Yvonne Moran, Elizabeth Marie (Eddie) Jefferson, Marvin Fee Moran and Marvea Tranchenia Moran; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; dear family and church friend, Sister Annie Pearl Hicks; her WOCC church family, other friends, neighbors and associates, as well as her health-care team.
