Novella Cargile Obituary

Novella Ruth Cargile was born March 23, 1930 to parents LaSalle Sr. and Montry Highshaw Thompson in Spearsville, Louisiana.

She was the oldest of five children. She departed this life February 26, 2024 at home surrounded by her family.

Novella confessed Christ at the age of 12 and was baptized by Rev. L.R. Mitchell at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Cincinnati, Ohio. She later joined Union Baptist Church, Cincinnati, Ohio in the 1980s, under the pastorate of Rev. Wilber A. Page, (currently pastored by Rev. Dr. Orlando B. Yates). She was a devoted member until her death. She loved to attend church regularly until her health declined and thereafter enjoyed watching the worship services on television.

Novella graduated from the old Woodward High School, Cincinnati, Ohio.  She was a loving wife who met and married William Cargile III and to this union, four children were born.

Her greatest enjoyment in life was raising her four children and taking care of her home. Later in life, she was an exceptional grandmother to her grandkids.

Novella was known for her quiet strength, loving personality, caring heart, and encouraging words.

She had such a sweet and gentle spirit and an infectious smile that left a memorable impression on all those who knew her.

Novella was affectionately referred to by her siblings as “Sister” and by her nieces and nephews as “Aunt Sister.”

She absolutely loved being around her family and cooking for them. Every Sunday was a soul food meal which often turned into epic family gatherings. She also loved to travel and work on crossword puzzles.

Novella had a weakness for sweets (her favor-ites were Twix candy bars, pastries and anything with coconut) and her family enjoyed indulging her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Gwendolyn and brothers, Henry Wendell and LaSalle Thompson, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, William; her children, Carol J., William IV, Kimberly A. Cargile-Watson (Jack) and Jeffrey R. Sr. (Shawna); her sister, Laura E. Thompson; grandchildren, Jeffrey R. Jr. (Jennifer) and Tristan R.; great-grandchildren, Justice Rose and Jeffrey R. III; sister-in-law, Ethel Thompson; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives whom she enjoyed being around.

2 Timothy 4:7- 8

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day — and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
