Pamela Renae Jones Obituary

Pamela Renae Jones was born between the union of Charlie and Jean Lockett on September 19, 1955. She was called home to Glory on January 1, 2021 at 2:30 a.m.

Pamela grew up in Clifton and Avondale with her mother who she loved and adored. Pamela was the only child so she and her mother were like a dynamic duo. Pamela graduated from Hughes High School in 1973. In 1976, she married Joseph L. Jones, Sr. and created two handsome sons, Damien and Joseph Jr. Besides her children, Pamela always loved music and dancing. Once she had a favorite record, she blasted it all day in the house. Pamela had a cousin, William whom she was very close with and they enjoyed going out together. She lived with her cousin, Sandy in Columbus and helped nurture and care for Sandy’s teenage daughter. That’s the type of person she was — loving and caring.

In 1991 is when she met her Life Partner, Vincent Matthews. The two of them formed a Cincinnati Gospel Group, NU Family and released a CD of songs. Pamela was a Powerhouse and so was her voice. She performed at multiple events and plays and also sung in church. She was known locally as a Gospel/Rhythm and Blues artist and was featured as a vocalist in local productions and the Lead Vocalist for The Groove Society. She also played the role of Harriet Tubman in “The Civil War” play at The Underground Railroad Freedom Center where she performed “Someday” and brought the house down. The play was also featured in the Cincinnati Enquirer. Pamela attended First Baptist Church of Mt. Auburn, then later became a member of House of Joy Ministries where she also sung like an Angel.

Pamela and Vincent spent everyday together up until 2015 when Vincent passed away. Once she lost him, she was never the same. She worked 15+ years at General Electric-Synchrony Financial and retired as a supervisor in 2016.

Pamela was a Team Mom; she enjoyed taking her children and grandchildren to football practice, football games and football banquets. She even was a Treasurer for the North College Hill Trojans Football Team. She never missed a game. Pamela enjoyed music, time with her family, cooking for family and friends, joking and laughing. She had a great sense of humor, a contagious laugh, a big heart and a beautiful smile. And she would always have great advice and wisdom for anyone who needed it.

Pamela was preceded in death by her mother, Jean Lockett and Life Partner, Vincent Matthews, but she leaves to cherish her precious memory: her mother-in-law, Delores Gartrell; her sons, Damien Jones, Sr. and Joseph Jones, Jr. (Ashley-baby daughter); her grandsons, Damien Jr. (Dang) and Dahmiyohn (Yah-Yah); and a host of cousins.
