Pastor Edward (Leon) Hamner Sr. D.D.

Rev. Hamner was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on June 26, 1936, he was a twin however, his twin sister died at birth. He is the son of the late Rev. H.A. Hamner, D.D., Bth, BA and Sister Mary Lou Gunn-Hamner. He was raised in Peterson, Ala. and was a member of the New St. Paul Baptist Church. He went to high school in Tuscaloosa Country Training after completion He served in the US Army from 1955-1963.

In 1997 he married his lovely wife Ornetter James-Hamner. They are blessed with 12 children.

Rev. Hamner preached his first sermon at the 142nd Street Baptist Church in New York, New York, on February 28, 1960. He was licensed in the ministry in August 1960 at Friendship College in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Rev. Hamner received his degree in Christian Education from the Ambassador College in Pasadena, California.

From 1960-1970 he was traveling recording artist with the Holy City Travelers recording on KNOF Records, St. Paul MN and Designer Records, Memphis Tennessee.

From 1970-1994 Rev. Hamner recorded and traveled with the Cincinnati Golden Airess, recording on CHAMP and HSE Records in Nashville, Tennessee. He traveled and sang with Sandy Forster Jr. and Five Blind Boys of Jackson, Mississippi until 2002.

Rev. Hamner served as assistant pastor of; Truth Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. R. L. Mitchell and was co-pastor of Second Unity Holiness Church in Cincinnati, Ohio.

In 1977 Rev. Hamner received his Doctor of Divinity Degree through the Universal Brotherhood Church in Kanas City, Missouri.

In 1978, Rev. Hamner became a member of the National Chaplain Association and served as a Chaplin at the University of Cincinnati from 1976-1986.

In 1988 Rev. Hamner became the pastor of First Baptist of Lincoln Heights, Ohio.

He served as Director Strong Tower Teen Mission in Newport, Kentucky, where Rev. Charles and Sister Jean Turbin was CEO.

In 1995 he went to Alabma Fire College, a division of Shelton State Community College, Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he became a Certified Emergency Medical Technician.
