Phyllis Irene Evans, affectionately known as Irene, age 83, of Cincinnati, OH passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024. Born on September 26, 1941 to George A. Hedges and Phyllis Calloway Scott, Irene was known for her warmth, kindness and unwavering support of those around her. She never met a stranger and her friendly, open spirit made everyone feel welcome.
She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend who brought joy to everyone she met. Irene was an avid gardener who spent her spring and summer days tending to the many beautiful plants she loved to be surrounded by, creating a yard that was admired by many. She was also a talented seamstress and upholsterer, using her skills to bring life and comfort to countless homes. Irene enjoyed decorating for each season and her favorite holiday was Christmas, when she filled her home with snowmen, so she could leave the decorations up throughout the winter. She also loved taking walks with her cherished dog, Taz who brought her much joy.
Throughout her career, Irene retired from Fusite Corporation and TJ Maxx, where she made many lasting friendships. Well-known and cherished in her community, Irene was also a Girl Scout leader when her daughter was young, sharing her love of nature and community with the next generation.
She was preceded in death by: her father, George A. Hedges; mother, Phyllis Calloway Scott; brothers, George I. Hedges and Eugene Lyle; and sister, Brenda Lyle.
Irene is survived by: her loving husband, William A. Evans; daughter, Vicki Lamb; stepdaughter, Melody Evans Jackson; grand-daughter, Erin Evans; great-granddaughters, Eriana Evans and Ramiah Stokes; siblings, Michael Hedges, Cheryl Lyle Jackson, Steve Walls, Arthur Hedges, Daniel (Orville) Hedges, Karen Hedges Pickett, Omar Scott, Lynn (Bobbie) Hedges, Gary Hedges, and Mark Hedges; beloved aunts, Betty Jamison and Mae Alsop; and a host of nieces, nephews, many family and friends.
A precious one from us is gone,
A voice we loved is still.
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
Irene’s legacy of kindness, creativity and dedication to her family and community will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
