Reola Hunt Obituary

Reola (Artis) Hunt was born April 1, 1927 in the small town of York, Alabama to the union of the late Henry and Almeda Artis. She was the 6th daughter of nine children. On July 27, 2018 she passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends.

Reola accepted the Lord as her Savior at an early age and became a member of 1st Baptist Church in York, Alabama under the Leadership of Rev. E. J. Foster where she served faithfully. She enjoyed participating in sports and music. Reola was an outgoing lady who loved travel and adventure.

Upon graduating from Sumpter County High School she relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio where she met and married the love of her life, Charles Hunt in 1950. The union of Charles and Reola was blessed with two daughters, Charlotte and Cheryl Yvette Hunt. She moved her membership to Greater Liberty Baptist Church were she remained for more than 60 years. She was a longtime member of the Missionary Society and active with the Prison Ministry until her health began to decline.

She enjoyed working at several retail establishments such as McAlpins, Pogues and Dillards. However, her entrepreneur spirit allowed her to pursue business ownerships like, restaurants, a painting and home improvement company and several real estate investments.

Following the death of her beloved Charles, she began to travel the world and bring joy to God's children wherever they were. She founded the Jamaica Children's Fund in 1999 and made it her mission to give toys and humanitarian aid to the children for more than 16 years. She was globally known for her generosity. Her motto was, "If you take care of others, then god will take care of you."

She is preceded in death by six brothers: Jesse, JW, Joseph, James, Henry Lee and JT Artis, and three sisters: Mattie Franks, Ella Jane Knoll, and Alice King.

Reola is survived by her two children, Charlotte Jones-Hunt (Leon) and Cheryl Yvette Hunt and her companion Joseph Hay. She also leaves to cherish her memory two sisters: Alice Wallace (John) and Ollie Artis. One sister-in-law: Hattie Artis and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, godchildren of the Cooper family and many friends.
