Michael W. Woolfork Sr. was born on December 25, 1966, in Cincinnati, OH, to Robert Miller and Madelyn Woolfork. Michael attended Withrow High School, where he developed a love for baseball and formed lasting friendships. Raised in a musically gifted family, he cultivated a deep passion for music and ministry at an early age. Alongside his brother and cousin, he helped form the singing group Pure Harmony, and he continued to sing and minister through music with the group throughout his adult life.
Michael demonstrated his commitment to service by enlisting in the United States Army in 1984. After graduating high school in 1985, he pursued higher education at Central State University, where he became a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Faith was a cornerstone of Michael’s life. Answering his calling to ministry, he was ordained in 1997 through El Bethel Baptist Church. Over the years, he ministered at several churches, sharing his faith, compassion, and dedication to serving others. In 2005, he became the head pastor of Gospel Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully led and shepherded his congregation. In 2021, he continued his spiritual journey and fellowship by joining Corinthian Baptist Church.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Madelyn Woolfork; his father, Robert Miller; several beloved uncles; his nephew, Darin Miller Jr.; and his wife, Kimberly Holmes Woolfork.
He leaves to cherish his memory his three children, Mikela, Michael II, and Malik; his brothers, Eugene Woolfork (Roberta) and Bishop Darin Miller Sr. (Yolanda); his two sisters, Cassandra Day and Karen Poindexter; his grandchildren, Ja’Sire, Omari, and Malaiyah; as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Michael will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his love for music, and the powerful way he delivered God’s word. He often began his sermons by singing I Won't Complain by Paul Jones, setting a heartfelt and reflective tone that touched the hearts of all who heard him. His voice, his ministry, and his spirit will continue to live on in the lives he uplifted and the family and congregation who loved him dearly.
