In Loving Memory of Robert L. Gay
Robert L. Gay, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and man of deep faith, was called home to be with the Lord on April 1, 2025. He was born on May 6, 1945, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the union of the late Rufus Gay and Ethel Williamson (née Sanders). Robert was one of three sons, along with brothers, Arnash and Herbert.
Robert grew up in Cincinnati and graduated from Taft High School in 1964. Shortly after, he began a dedicated career at General Electric in Evendale, Ohio, where he worked diligently for 36 years before retiring in 2002. Throughout his career, Robert was committed to personal growth and continually sought to expand his knowledge, pursuing higher education and various trades to enhance his skills and expertise.
A man whose life was guided by his love for God and the Bible, Robert accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized while attending Zion Temple First Pentecostal Church. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he always sought God’s guidance in everything he did. He was an active member of Zion Temple First Pentecostal Church for over a decade, where he led the men’s Sunday School class and inspired many to commit their lives to Christ.
On May 6, 1967, Robert married the love of his life, Madeline Hill. They shared 52 wonderful years of marriage until her passing. Together they built a beautiful life centered on faith, love, and family. Their union was blessed with four children: Valindia Robyn, Robert II, Vanetta Ronique, and Rodrick. Robert was a devoted family man who cherished every moment spent with his wife, four children, and eight grandchildren. Whether attending their events or simply enjoying time together, his love for family was evident in all he did.
Robert found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand, making everyone feel welcome in his presence. He loved being outdoors—whether he was running, lounging in the backyard with a good book, or listening to his beloved Bible CDs. He was an avid basketball and ping-pong player, often playing at the Springdale Recreational Center. No matter a person’s age or skill level, Robert never hesitated to invite them to run with him or join in a game of basketball, always eager to share his love for the sport. In retirement, he discovered a passion for cooking, delighting his family with unique flavors and creative dishes.
Above all, Robert's life was a testament to love, faith, and fellowship. His warm and generous spirit touched the lives of many, as he was known for his kindness and his ability to make friends wherever he went. His unwavering devotion to his family, his commitment to God, and his kindness to those around him created a lasting legacy that will continue in the hearts of those who knew him.
Robert is now reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Madeline. He leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his memory: his children, Valindia Robyn Kinebrew (Kevin), Robert Lee Gay II, Vanetta Ronique Rogers (Michael), and Rodrick Lee Gay; his adored grandchildren, Dominic McClendon, Kaleb, Kameron, and Kevin Isaiah II Kinebrew, Moorea Adams, Michael Bell, Micah, and Mikhail Rogers; his brothers, Arnash (Sonny) and Herbert Gay; and a host of family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Robert’s love, wisdom, and faith-filled spirit will remain in our hearts forever.
