Robert Smiley, Jr.

Robert D. Smiley, Jr. was born on October 20, 1955 to Iola Suggs, adoptive parents, Robert and Ruth Smiley. He departed this life on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

He attended and graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1974. He then attended Wardoff College and Simmons College where he excelled in football. He was very outgoing and knew no strangers growing up and in his adult years.

In 1978, he joined the United States Air Force where he was a Flightline Security Policeman.

He married Joy Klaver in March of 1979, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Iola Suggs; parents, Robert and Ruth Smiley; and brother, William Suggs.

He leaves to cherish his memory: son, Elijah Stoll Washington; daughter, Koasha Martin; several grandchildren; sister, Rosie Martin; brother, Tim Suggs; and many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.
