Ronald Hooks Obituary

With sadness, love and profound gratitude, the family of Ronald Webster Hooks announces his passing on January 6, 2022. The family takes solace in knowing that Ron died at his home, peacefully in the loving arms of his wife of 23 years, Cassaundra Hooks.

Ronald Webster Hooks (November 17, 1938 - January 6, 2022) was born in Cincinnati, OH to James Dowdy and Dorothy Mitchell. He was the eldest of two children of Dorothy Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, John Lewis.

Ron grew up in downtown Cincinnati attending Taft High School. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps. As a proud veteran, he spoke often about the pride and honor of being a Marine and serving his country. The values in[1]stilled in him during his years of service, became the roadmap for his everyday life.

Growing up in the church, Ron was baptized at an early age. Upon marrying Cassaundra, Ron became a devoted member of Lincoln Heights Baptist Church and gave glory and honor to God. He was committed to fulfilling his purpose through his daily walk with Christ, even while carrying his own cross during his health battles.

Ronald was an exemplary employee of the Keebler Company. Throughout his 37 years at Keebler, he served in many capacities, such as Supervisor, Union Steward, and Vice-President and President of Union #253. As Union President, he was a staunch ambassador for the employees, focusing on ensuring that workers were paid a living wage and treated fairly. Also, Ron became the 214th member of Gothic Lodge #122 Free and Accepted Mason in 1979.

Ron was a lover of all music, with Jazz being his first love. Close friends and family of Ron knew that upon entering the basement, he was welcoming you into his world of Jazz. In his spare time, Ron developed his love for bowling. He bowled in various leagues over the years at Brentwood Bowl, in addition to this being the place where he met his wife, Cassaundra. Ron enjoyed playing a good game of bid whist, watching his favorite sport teams and hunting. Papa, as his grandchildren affectionately knew him, always looked for ways to make the loved ones in his life feel important. His wife, children and grandchildren never had to question his love, dedication and commitment to his family. Shortly before he passed, Ron shared that being a grandparent was one of the most rewarding experiences of his lifetime.

Ron leaves to cherish his memory: loving wife, Cassaundra (Ann) of 23 years; children, Diane, Denise Ann, Ronald Jr. (Ramona) and Nicole (Bryant); stepchildren, Matthew (Michelle) and Vashawn Strader; sister-in-law, Pamela Glaspie and LaTonya Bibbie (Duane); grandchildren, India (Rayshon), Brittany, Gabrielle, Shaumia, Ronald III, Rhonda, LeeRon and Rondell; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Raquel Dowdy-Cornute of Columbus, OH, Karen (Dan) Dowdy-Fullin of Granville, OH and Kevin Dowdy of Cincinnati, OH; as well as a host of step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, friends and family.

Ron was a loving and devoted husband, a great father and grandfather, a good son, brother and friend. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
