Roosevelt “Sumthin Simpl” Cash Jr. was born on May 24, 1965, at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, to the proud parents Evelyn Collins Cash and the late Roosevelt Cash Sr. He spent his formative years at 5700 Martin Luther King Drive, surrounded by the vibrant heartbeat of city life.
In 1979, the family relocated to Indianola, Mississippi, where Roosevelt attended Gentry High School. During his time there, he participated in the ROTC Firearms Program and proudly graduated in 1984. Following graduation, Roosevelt returned to Chicago and began his professional journey in Security Patrol. He later pursued his passion for mechanics and went on to earn his certification as a truck driver. What began as an occupation soon became his lifelong calling. Roosevelt dedicated more than 41 years to the trucking industry, earning the respect of his peers for his commitment, discipline, and pride in his work.
Known affectionately as “Sumthin Simpl,” Roosevelt was a man of humility, humor, and wisdom. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life—riding his motorcycle, enjoying a good domino game, savoring a home-cooked meal, and relaxing while listening to his favorite podcasts. Music was a constant in his life, and the soulful voice of Sam Cooke often accompanied him both on the road and at home.
For more than 17 years, Roosevelt was a proud and devoted member of the Zulu Motorcycle Club, where he shared deep bonds of brotherhood and camaraderie. His loyalty, respect, and easygoing nature made him a cherished member of the club and a friend to all who rode alongside him.
In 2005, Roosevelt met the love of his life, Vanessa Horton. Their connection was instant and unwavering. The two were united in holy matrimony on July 24, 2010, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Their union was marked by deep love, laughter, and partnership, forming a bond that remained strong through every season of life.
Roosevelt lived a life guided by purpose, passion, and love. He will be remembered for his warm spirit, generous heart, and the genuine way he made everyone feel valued. His legacy will continue through the many lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.
Roosevelt was preceded in death by his father, Roosevelt Cash Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted mother, Evelyn Collins Cash; his beloved wife, Vanessa Horton Cash; his cherished daughter, Syllisia Cash; five adored grandchildren, Meshanti, Julien, Elias, Elise, and Naire; four loving sisters, Laketha, Jennifer, Armeia, and Myesha; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
