Rosa Strayhorn was born Estella Rose Lee Duke on December 25, 1934 in Lexington, Kentucky to James Duke (deceased) and Rose Gooch (deceased).
Rosa received her education in the Lockland City Schools where she excelled in math. She would later work for and retire from Sears Roebuck and Company. Her retirement wouldn’t last long as she took part-time jobs at Value City and Walmart stores to keep herself busy until she retired for good.
She enjoyed singing and the church. She and several of her sisters were in a singing group who sang in area churches in their youth. She became a member of the Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church in February 1975. She was very active in church as a member of the Adult Choir, Bus Ministry and the Forever Young Ministry. She enjoyed and faithfully attended Wednesday Night Bible Study and Sunday School.
Anyone who knew her, knew she loved Jesus and her church. Upon meeting someone new, the first question she would ask is “What church do you go to?” She wholehearted believed everyone needed Jesus and needed to go to church.
She lived a full life serving the Lord and spending time with her family, especially showing love and support to her grandchildren in whatever capacity she could.
Loved ones who preceded her in death: her husband, Fletcher Strayhorn; her son, Kevin L. Hunn; three brothers, Joseph Duke, William Duke and George Duke; and five sisters, Mary Hyde, Cora Warford, Nancy Duke, Barbara McDay and Elsie McDay.
She leaves to cherish her memory: four children, Gregory White (April-deceased), Patricia White, Milton White (Nancy) and Chana White Headen (Ronald); 25 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren; six sisters, Frances White, Laverne Thompson[1]Gordon, Jessie Mae McDay, Marie McDay, Priscilla Mann and Ella Richardson; one brother, Jesse Lee McDay; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friend
