Sarah E. Smith Obituary

On October 23,2024, the Lord saw fit to call from labor to reward His dear child Sarah Evelyn Smith at 104 years of age.

Sarah Evelyn Smith was born on August 12, 1920 in Jackson Georgia, the second of eleven children born to Thomas Japeth and Sallie Mae Smith. She was educated in the Georgia Public School system. She loved and was determined not to let anything stand in her way from attending school. Her goal was to become a teacher. She was trained and taught in a one room building.

After moving to Cincinnati, Sarah united with the New Hope Baptist Church where she was an active member for over seventy years, serving on the Nurses Guild, the Missionary Society, The Vocal Chorus, where she said she got her love of singing from her father. She taught Sunday School and attended many Sunday School Conventions and Conferences.

She loved cooking for and spending time with her family and friends and had worked as a breakfast cook at Frisch Big Boy Restaurant for over 20 years. Sweet potato pies were her specialty!!  Some of her  favorite past times included doing puzzles, sewing, not only for herself but for others and traveling.

In her mid nineties she joined the Hirsch Recreation Center and became an avid walker, often encouraging others to join her.

Sarah was preceded in death by her husband Willie Smith, her parents, Thomas Japeth and Sallie Mae Smith, a daughter Beverly Ann Smith, grandson Christopher Pryor.  Her sisters Willie Mae Trimble, Annie Lois Burles, Lillie Ruth Slaughter and Aileen Smith. Her brothers Willie Arthur, Bennie James, Leslie Sr and Tommie Joe Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Geraldine Williams and Jacquenetta (Jackie) Smith, two sons Clarence (Janice) and Muhammad Wali, a sister Lucy Gladys Smith, 12 grandchildren,  a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
