The urn is protected inside a glass and wood encasement, which rest on an urn bier that is higher than a table. The encasement lends reverence and dignity to the human remains as a casket does. A crucifix or cross can rest on the encasement such as it would rest on a casket, regardless of the style of urn. Many times the urn is in the style of a vase and the cross or crucifix is placed to the side. A spray of flowers can also rest on the encasement as it would on a casket. Pall bearers can participate by carrying their loved one from the funeral home to hearse, from hearse to church, and then to the cemetery.
