Obituary

Mrs. Shirley Ann Layfield was born November 4, 1943 in Owosso, Michigan to Frank and Virginia Kirk. She departed this life on Monday, April 4, 2022 at the age of 78 years. 

She married Dudley Layfield, Jr., he preceded her in death. Mrs. Layfield retired from Buena Vista Township Schools where she served on various boards. 

She leaves to cherish her memory nine children, Kimberlyn Wisenbaugh, MI, Dudley (Sheryl) Layfield III, OH, Anthony Layfield, GA, Juanita Layfield, OH, Dwayne (Tameka) Layfield, FL, Jacqueline (Melvin) Trammell, OH, Jessie Lewis, NC, Damon Layfield, GA; grandson, Tristan Layfield, Detroit, MI whom she adopted; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren (and one due in August); a sister, Barbara Schmitt, MI; two sisters-in-law, Dora Layfield and Dorothy Carter both of Georgia; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and her dear friends and neighbors in Saginaw, Michigan. 

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Virginia Kirk; father and mother-in-law, Dudley and Jessie Layfield, Sr.; a sister, Delores Smith; four brothers, Tom, Charles and John Wisenbaugh and James Thompson; three brothers-in-law, Robert “Bobby” Smith, Cecil Schmitt and Willie Carter and a sister-in-law, Betty Thompson. 

Funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw, MI 48607. Pastor Hurley J. Coleman, Jr. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
