Shirley Ann Anderson was born October 29, 1936 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late James Matthews and Lillian Mallory. At the age of 85, Shirley received her wings on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Vitas Hospice Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Shirley graduated from Withrow High School in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1954. After high school she began working for the A&P grocery store in Walnut Hills as a cashier. While working at the A&P, she was blessed with two children Darrell and Cherie Thomas. After her career with the A&P, she started working at Avon Products as a tour guide. During her time at Avon, she met and married Henry Anderson. From this union, they were blessed with a son they named Andre Clay Anderson. Shirley continued to work her way up the management chain to supervisor at Avon and retired in 1986.
Outside of work, Shirley enjoyed entertaining, spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing card games like Spades and Bid Whist. She liked playing Pokeno and dancing. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving. She loved eating all the delicious foods and seeing family and friends enjoy themselves.
Shirley accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Mt. Auburn.
She was in the Matron Club with best friend, Ruby Carroll at First Baptist where they enjoyed participating in luncheons and social events. Shirley loved to create matching ensembles for herself and her daughter Cherie to wear during special church events and holidays. Later in life, she joined New Mission Missionary Baptist Church with her husband Henry Anderson.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lillian; her grandparents, Caldwell and Gertrude Smith; husband, Henry Anderson; sister, Claudia Lewis; sister, Beverly Wells; son, Darrell Thomas; and granddaughter, Treysha Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving and devoted daughter, Cherie Letton; son, Andre Anderson; daughter-in-law, Belinda Thomas; brothers, James Matthews, Jessie Matthews, Terry Matthews (Pam) and Paul Matthews; sister, Sandra Menefield (William); sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Anderson; granddaughter, Juanna Bennett, grandson, Dominic Thomas, granddaughter, Alexandra Cureton (Christopher), granddaughter, Cerayah Anderson and grandson, Andre Anderson II; special friends, Edna Adams, Cheryl Stone and Debbie Oliver; and a host of great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
