Simon "Bobby" Barrett, Jr.

A Reflection of a Life Well Lived

Simon Barrett Jr. was the fourth child of five born on June 4, 1941 in Pitt County, North Carolina to his late parents, Simon Barrett, Sr. and Blanche Scarborough Barrett. There is always a right time for the Lord to call his children to come home, so His Angels came to escort His child Tuesday evening August 24, 2021.  

Bobby will join his parents, his sisters, Gladys Barrett Green Thomas, Olivia Barrett Hemby, Marhynie Barrett Carmon, and his daughter, Donnetta Meadows Porter who preceded him.

Bobby was well known as “Bobby”, as a child growing up his family would attend Warren Chapel United American Free Will Baptist Church in North Carolina.  As an adult, he would attend Little Flower Catholic Church in Cincinnati, Ohio with his wife Catherine Lackey Meadows.

Bobby attended W.H. Robinson High School in Winterville, North Carolina.  While attending high school he played basketball.  After leaving school, he joined the United States Army. Simon was honorably discharged and followed his oldest sister Gladys to Cincinnati Ohio, where he attended Hughes High Evening School to received his GED.

Bobby was married in 1982 to the love of his life, Catherine Lackey Meadows, and they both attended Little Flower Catholic Church in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Together they parented six beautiful children., Roy, Barbara, LaMonte, Donnetta, Darryl, and Cheryl.  Bobby cherished his family and was especially protective of his baby sister, Alice.    He stood ready at all times to share his opinion as well as his advice when he felt it was needed.

Bobby was employed with the United States Post Service and retired from the Kroger Company.   He later followed his dream of being his own boss, and successfully became an entrepreneur. 

During his leisure time, you could always find Bobby watching car shows, listening to his jazz, and sipping his favorite, top shelf, Hennessey beverage!

Bobby was also known as Granddad, Big Daddy, and Uncle Bobby leaves to cherish his wonderful memories a loving and devoted wife, Catherine Lackey Barrett; three sons,  Roy (Jacquelyn) Barrett of Greenville, NC, Darryl (Susan) Meadows of Dana Point, CA, LaMonte (Nicole) Holt of Cincinnati, OH;  two daughters, Barbara Barrett of Greenville, NC and Cheryl Meadows of Cincinnati, OH;  11 Grandchildren, Mariah Barrett of Greenville, NC, Lowell Hiles of Dana Point, CA, Marques (Inell) Harvey of Austin, TX, Morganne Holt, Madyson Holt, Simon Holt  all of Cincinnati, OH, Teasha Barrett of Greenville, NC, Martin (TaRonda) Stanton of Suffolk, VA, Jamar Meadows of Columbus, OH, Wayne Barron Jr. and Carmon Meadows both of Cincinnati, OH;  14 Great-Grandchildren: Ma’Shy Harvey, Isaiah Harvey, Estella Harvey, Aundia Harvey, all of Austin, TX Sharnay Morrison and McKinley Morrison III, both of Suffolk, VA Alaura Meadows of Columbus, OH, Chaz Williams, Deziray Williams, Chasidy Williams, Destiny Meadows, Jayla Barron, Wayne Barron II, of and Andrei Meadows all of Cincinnati, OH.  One caring and loving sister, Alice L. Hawkins of Cincinnati, OH; two brothers-in-law, Jerome (Caroline) Lackey, Eugene Lackey; two sisters-in-law, Gloria (Paul) Garrett, and Delores Johnson both of Cincinnati, OH; special nephews, Dana Hawkins and Curtis Hawkins (Karen) both Cincinnati, OH, and Michael Crandall of Baltimore, MD; special nieces,   MichelleRenée (Victor) Norflee and Pamela Hawkins of Cincinnati, OH, Carrie (Stephen) Atkinson and Annette Bennett both Greenville, OH, Angela Carmon Durham, NC, Clarice (Lamont) Hampton of Southfield, MI and Ericka Hemby of Grifton, NC, and a host of other relatives and friends.
