Starling Peavy, Jr.

Starling Peavy, Jr., 91, departed this life on Thursday, October 26, 2023. Born in Moultrie, Georgia, on September 27, 1932, he was preceded in death by his parents, Starling Peavy, Sr. and Eleanor Peavy. In 1948, Starling graduated from Withrow High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was conscripted into the Army for the Korean War and attended the University of Cincinnati Raymond Walters College. Starling spent 35 years working for the Hilton Davis Chemical Company. During his post-retirement years, Starling remained industrious and worked 22 years for Enterprise Holdings. He enjoyed the camaraderie with his coworkers and worked several days a week until 2 months before his death. Work was food for his soul.

An avid health enthusiast, Starling believed that “Health is Wealth,” that anything could be achieved with good health. He believed and lived like good health was the most valuable asset and more than material riches. Starling enjoyed working out and walked 4-5 miles several days a week for many years, and he also worked out at his local YMCA. Healthy eating and working out were vital to his well-being – both were also food for his soul. He raised his children with healthy eating habits and spread the word about healthy eating to anyone who would listen.

Starling was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grand father, mentor and friend. He was always there for the sick and shut in. Known for being dapper, he was usually the best-dressed man in the room.

Starling is survived by one son: Calvin Hayes;  three daughters: Susan Moultrie (David), Sabrina Peavy-Marshall, and Starling Rosha Peavy; five grandchildren: Lamont Daniels (Alisha), Jason Daniels, Aisha Marshall, Justin Marshall, and Caleb Marshall; eight great grandchildren: Dynastee’ Marshall, Gleniyua Marshall, CaNeel Daniels, Covenant Daniels, Kionte Earley, Jason Daniels, Jr.,  Josiah Blythe and Jada Daniels; and one great, great grandchild: Antwoine Coach; and a host of relatives and friends.   

A graveside service will be held at Vine Street Hill Cemetery (Mitchell Avenue entrance), Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.; from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., a celebration of Starling’s life (repast) will be held at Centennial Station Apartments Clubhouse, 4209 Erie Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45227.
