Sylvia Faye Jemison

Sylvia Faye Jemison was born February 23, 1936 in Birmingham, AL to the proud parents of Elsie Lee Price and Emanuel Price. Jr., both of whom preceded her in death.  She had one brother, Harold K. Price of Atlanta, GA and one sister, Beverly Forbes of Miami, FL who preceded her in death.  Sylvia has one living sister, Dr. Gwendolyn P. Freeman of Santa Clara, CA.  She also leaves behind one cousin, Norman Hall of Birmingham, AL.

Sylvia peacefully departed this life on February 19, 2026 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH.

Sylvia graduated from Alabama State College in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.  She then moved to Cincinnati, OH and married Rev. Thad Jemison, who preceded her in death.  

Sylvia was very strong and didn't bite her tongue.  She enjoyed sports, traveling, playing the piano, and she really loved her crossword puzzles and word searches.  She was a very Christian woman and was a devoted member of the 1st Church if God in Norwood where she played the piano until her vision started to deteriorate.  She continued to visit as often as she could.

Sylvia is survived by her only daughter, Thaddea (Derrick) Jemison-Thomas; grandchildren, Antony (Lanisha) Jemison, Tierra Jemison and Johnay Young; eight great grandchildren, Aniya, Jerni, Zaryah, Tayler, Trinity, Tearron Jr., Zyand and Natany.  She is also survived by two nephews, Ken (Sumi) Freeman of California and D'Andrew (Cindy Huntley-Forbes) Forbes of Ft. Lauderdale, FL who will always miss doing puzzles with her every night.

She had a host of family and friends that loved her.  She will be truly missed but never forgotten.
