TERRIE WENDY EVANS was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 2, 1949 to Willie Gillam, Jr. and Glenacee Gillam; both of them preceded her in death.
Terrie grew-up in Over the Rhine and graduated from Taft High School. She furthered her education at Cincinnati Technical College. Terrie began working as a Court Reporter for American Arbitration. She made the decision to begin a career in the health care field and was employed at the University of Cincinnati Hospital as a Patient Monitor, until she retired in 2018.
Terrie was previously a member of Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Church where she was baptized in Jesus Name and received the gift of the Holy Ghost in the early 1980’s. In her later years, she became a member and attended Hope for You Family Life and Worship Center, where Bishop Larry Dempsey was her pastor.
Terrie enjoyed numerous activities. To list a few that she enjoyed most was reading, movies, plays, musicals, traveling, shopping, hanging out with family and talking on the phone. She also enjoyed dining out, playing candy crush, plants and birds, but out of all of these things she loved her family. Family was everything to her. Some of the things that she used to do when our family would get together was to have the girls in the family make her some “Cluck-Cluck” as she would call it (also known as chicken and some potatoes and onions). When our family would begin to become rowdy and out of control as she would say, she would yell “Kirk Break!” Meaning get “Kirk Franklin” on or any gospel music and we would all laugh and switch gears as she instructed.
Terrie was an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, co-worker, confidant, listening ear supporter and always there when needed. Life is definitely going to be different without Terrie as we all loved her very much.
Terrie was preceded in death by: husband, Peyton Evans, III; father, Willie Gillam, Jr.; mother, Glenacee Jones; brother, Willie Gillam; sister, Vanessa Taylor; grandsons, Kevin M. Gillam and Kevin L. Gillam; niece, Tracey Gillam.
Terrie leaves to cherish fond memories: three daughters, Sheila Gillam, Regina Gillam and Canita Alexander (Anthony); six siblings, Sherry Tshibangu, Gregory Gillam, Antoinette Sorrells, Herman Perry-Haygood, Madeleine Perry and Selma Perry-Haygood; 10 grandchildren, Shakeisha Gillam, Tamika Gillam, Shalina Gillam, Shemeka Douglas (Stoney), Britni Green (Brandon), Chericka Gillam, Shane Whitfield, Keyvin Gillam, Kiontae Gillam and Paityn Alexander; 46 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; three nieces, Marcia Gillam, Kamwanya Mueller (Ti-Ti), and Lashonda Green; five nephews, Willie Gillam, Christopher Gillam, Joshua Sorrells, Montez Sorrells and Regis Sorrells; and a host of great-nieces, nephews and extended family.
“A limb has fallen from the family tree that says grieve not for me. Remember the BEST TIMES, the laughter, the song, the good life I lived while I was STRONG.”
