Travis Lee Shelton was born on December 6, 1952, in Greensboro, Alabama, as the fourth child to the loving union of Robert Louis and Melvoria Shelton (née Hamilton). He was raised in a home filled with warmth, love, and unwavering family support.
Travis attended Grigg Elementary School and Hale County Training School. Even as a young boy, his natural leadership was evident, earning him the affectionate nickname "Papa" for his bossy yet endearing nature.
At the age of 16, Travis chose to follow in the footsteps of his father and brother, working in pulpwood forestry. Seeking new opportunities, he later moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he dedicated himself to labor work. After years of hard work, he retired in 2018.
Following his retirement, Travis faced health challenges that led to his admission into hospice care. However, through the continued love and encouragement of his family and his second family at Woodedge Nursing Home, he made a remarkable recovery, offering hope that he would regain his strength. Though he continued to improve, his journey came to a peaceful end on January 22, 2025, at Woodedge Nursing Home in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Travis was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Louis and Melvoria Shelton, and his brothers, Louis Edward and Booker T. Shelton.
He leaves behind cherished memories with his beloved sisters: Annie Lois (Larry) Mitchell of Ypsilanti, Michigan; Virginia (William) Lindsey of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Angie (James) of Greensboro, Alabama. His brothers: Bernard, Robert, and Antonio Shelton, all of Greensboro, Alabama. His dear Aunt, Ceola Richardson of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Additionally, he is remembered fondly by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and acquaintances who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
Travis will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, resilience, and family devotion will continue to live on in those who knew and loved him.
May he rest in eternal peace.
