Spencer G. Oliver, Sr., was born on April 2nd, 1947 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born at Cincinnati General Hospital to the parents of Washington and Rozeal Oliver. He passed from earth to Glory on January 15th 2025 surrounded by his devoted wife and his loving family.
Spencer graduated from Lincoln Heights High School in 1965. After graduation he served in the Army in Vietnam and France from 1966 until 1968. After leaving the Army, Spencer started working at Procter and Gamble in Cincinnati. He retired after 30 years of impeccable service.
In 1968, after leaving the Army, Spencer met Janice Norman. This love blossomed and in 1975 he married the love of his life Janice!
He accepted Christ into his heart, life and being. He was baptized in Jesus Name and received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost at Greater Emanuel Apostolic Temple- under the pastorate of the late, Apostolic Father, Bishop Paul A. Bowers.
At Greater Emanuel, Spencer was very active. Always around to help and bring a level head to any situation and a sense of humor to any issue! He was an Executive Member (Trustee) of the Greater Emanuel’s Official Board of Directors, member of the famed Voices of Emanuel Men’s Choir (travelling extensively with the choir), he was an ardent and meticulous Usher, and he was a scholar and member of the Sunday School Department.
Spencer loved spending time with his family. He loved his wife, children, grand children and his brothers and sisters. He loved reading and writing. His handwriting was impeccable, so much so, others asked him to write out cards and notes because of his perfect hand-writing!!! You could catch him watching sports, and he loved old TV shows.
Almost every morning he would enjoy sitting by the love of life, Janice and drinking his morning coffee. Spencer was bigger than life. We will miss his smile, his laugh and his sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.
Spencer was preceded in death by his parents, Wash-ington and Rozeal Oliver; sister, Mary Bibbs, brothers; Andrew Oliver and McArthur Oliver, son, Min. James A. Norman, grandson; DeMarko Zellner.
