With deep love and heartfelt remembrance, we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and family patriarch, Tyrone James Chappell, who entered eternal rest on January 25, 2026, at the age of 81.
Tyrone was born on June 23, 1944, in Birmingham, Alabama, where he attended the East Birmingham school system. He later made Cincinnati, Ohio his home, where he built a life rooted in hard work, leadership, faith, and family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Hardy; his sister, Cloteel Patterson; his beloved children, Andrea Malone and Tiffany Holloway; his grandson, Tyrell Wyche; and his nieces, Constance Williams and Tangie Williams.
Our father lived an active, purposeful life marked by dedication and service. He worked faithfully for the City of Cincinnati, Department of Sanitation, retiring after many years of dependable service. Known for his strong work ethic, he was never late for work. Even in retirement, he continued working for himself as a true jack of all trades.
Through his cleaning business and various hands-on services, he demonstrated a natural gift for organization, coordination, and leadership. He took pride in honest labor—whether tree cutting, lawn services, dump-truck work, or cleaning—and always showed up on time, giving his best. Cleanliness and excellence mattered deeply to him, and it showed.
Tyrone never met a stranger. He loved people and loved to talk. He was funny, resourceful, charming, and well liked by many. He taught all of his children the value of hard work, discipline, and responsibility. He inspired his sons to become entrepreneurs, emphasizing accountability, self-respect, and building something meaningful. He taught his daughters to know their worth and carry themselves with dignity. He had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and important.
Beyond his own children, he mentored many men—sharing skills, work discipline, and life lessons. He had a generous heart and often opened his home, helping others find stability during difficult times.
A man of faith, he was a faithful member of West End Community Church, where he served as a trustee. In 2022, he was baptized in Jesus’ name, filled with the Holy Ghost, and became a member of True Holiness Covenant of Peace Assembly of Walnut Hills.
He loved his family deeply and wanted his children to know one another. Each shared a unique relationship with him, yet all were connected by his steady presence and love. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—especially cooking his favorite meal of fish and rice—and cherished time spent talking, laughing, and being together.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lisa Holloway, and his children:
Terwanda Hardy; Cedric Chappell (Arletta); Anthony Chappell; Vonetta Dumas Jennings (Aubrey); Nakia Swint (Aquinas); Monica Simmons; Matthew Myers; Tiara Fischer (Michael); Sakeena Reid (Alrick); India Chappell; Bianca Staub; Steve Harvey; Kenyetta Harvey; and Tasha Holloway.
He is also lovingly remembered by his cousins Shirley Hardy, Nancy Tibbett, Charlie Mae Cooper, and Charles Jr. Gates, along with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, lifelong friends, and the many men whose lives he shaped through leadership, mentorship, and example.
Our father lived fully, loved deeply, and leaves behind a legacy of hard work, leadership, generosity, faith, and love.
