Vernon Burns was born on October 03, 1936 to Jessie and Julius Burns in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was known as “Cadillac” to those who knew and loved him. He attended Cincinnati public schools.
Vernon was the youngest sibling of 7 children. He was preceded in death by his parents Jessie and Julius Burns and brothers, Morris, Howard Ernest, Elmer, Mentor and Melvin Burns. He is survived by his only sister Mrs. Edna V. Jones of Ohio and Sister-in-Law Mrs. Ernestine Burns of Virginia.
While serving in the US Navy, Vernon married Mary Louise Berkeley. To this union his only child, Cookie, was born.
Vernon joined the United States Navy in 1955 and served his country faithfully until his retirement from the military. After his retirement from active duty he continued to work for the government as a Chef, based in Cocoa, Florida, while serving on ships that traveled around the world. More important than his career accomplishments, Vernon pursued a personal relationship with the Lord.
He faithfully served as an usher at his home church in Cocoa, Florida for many years until his relocation to the Cincinnati area.
Vernon began his eternity with the Lord on October 28, 2020. Even though he will be deeply missed by those who loved him, we are certain he received a “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Vernon leaves behind his daughter, Cookie (Ty) Stovall, 3 grandchildren: Dana (Kenny), Lauren and Jonathan and 4 great grandchildren, his niece and caregiver, Gwen, and six generations of nieces, nephews from Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Las Vegas, Georgia and Virginia.
