Vinson Blalock, Sr.

Vinson Blalock, Sr. was born on December 28, 1941, in Greenville, Georgia, in Merriweather County. He was the last of nine children born to the late John and Annie Lou (nee Reeves) Blalock. His siblings, Norman Blalock, Joe Lewis (Pete) Blalock, Hugh (Bubba) Blalock, Roscoe (Scoe) Blalock, Inez Favors, F. Louise Mitchem, Corine Shelton and Mozelle Dennis all preceded him in death. In March of 1964, he married Judy Faye (nee Jefferson) and to this union, four children were born: Vinson Lamar Blalock, Jr., Valerie Renee Blalock, the late Mia Tanene Blalock, Tia Janene Blalock and another daughter, Deborah Brewster and her son/his grandson, Nikko Brewster. In June of 1996, Vinson married Beverly (nee Smith) and to this union, he gained two bonus sons: Brian Smith, Todd Smith and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Vinson was educated in Greenville, Georgia. As a young man, at the age of 19, he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, to follow a few of his siblings, who had already moved there. In his early employable years, he worked at a couple of different companies where he performed physical and labored work. Later, he was employed at Borden Chemical, Inc., where he worked as a Chemical Operator/Machine Operator. After 33 years of service, he retired from there. Also, many years ago, he was an entrepreneur, along side his longtime friend and business partner, Murse Dreher. They owned and operated two cleaning businesses, and they later owned and operated a staple in the Lockland community, Tenny’s Bar. Vinson was also a founding member and managing partner of the Lock’s Club, in Lincoln Heights, Ohio, and it was a staple in that community for many years. Vinson was a charter member of The Optimistic Club, he was a Shriner for a duration of time, and he was a Teamster.

At an early age, Vinson accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, and was baptized at Fellowship Baptist Church in Greenville, Georgia. To this day, many of his relatives still attend church there. Later in life, he joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Woodlawn, Ohio.

On a daily basis, before his health declined, he loved going to the Frisch’s restaurant (in Hartwell) to eat breakfast and meet up with friends. Vinson went there so much that, many of the servers knew him by name and already knew what his order would be on any given day.

Vinson has always been into sports and was a true fan of the Cincinnati Bengals. He loved to socialize and entertain his many friends and family, and he was known to host cookouts at his home. Vinson will truly be missed by many. Vinson was a hard-working, sweet, kind-hearted, generous man, who would help darn near anyone. He was a giver with no expectations. He liked doing for people and helping them when in need. He enjoyed his many groups of friends and colleagues, and he loved his family, especially, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Before his health declined, he enjoyed traveling and seeing the world, and attending social events.

Vinson leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Valerie (Nay), Vinson Jr. (Lamar), Tia and Debbie; his grandchildren, Kiara Blalock, Alexandria (Alex) Blalock Butler, Darian Blalock and Nikko Brewster; his great-grandchildren, Airianna Blalock and Ayden Lewis, as well as additional bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and friends who love him dearly. He leaves behind special childhood friends, Ben Parks, Sr. and Obadiah Anderson, who were still apart of his life.
