Willa M. Smith Obituary

Willa Mae Smith was born on December 15, 1939 to the late Otis Fluker, Sr. and Vernease Fluker in Vaiden, MS.

Willa transitioned from this life at Hospice Cincinnati in Blue Ash, OH on January 22, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Willa was affectionately known as “Sister” by her family.

She accepted Christ at an early age at Tuckerville Baptist Church in Vaiden, MS and later in life, she became a member of Kennedy Heights Presbyterian Church.

She was a woman of faith. No matter what she was faced with in life, she continued to trust God. Even though her health was declining, she continued to trust God, worship God and pray.

She was a woman of family. One of her greatest joys was her family. She loved hanging out or talking on the telephone with her brothers and sisters. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was a woman of food. She loved cooking for her family and friends. She started cooking around the age of seven. Her mother started teaching her how to cook. She was one of the best cooks on this side of heaven. She loved cooking for holidays, Sunday dinners or when family came in town to visit.

She also enjoyed spending time with friends. She belonged to the Club of Couples. She did lots of traveling with the club and she also belonged to the Silverton Block Club.

She was a loving and faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis Fluker, Sr. and Vernease Fluker; her sister Ruth Gary; and brother Dwight Fluker.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: husband, John A. Smith; her five children, sons - Dwight D. Fluker, Denwood E. Sellers and Donald A. Sellers, daughters - Erma J. (Gary) Smith and Sarah L. Dukes; her five stepchildren, sons - John Smith, Daryl Smith and Cedric Smith, daughters - DeAngela Smith and Cheryl Smith; brothers and sister, Rev. Otis (Mary) Fluker, Lloyd Fluker, Lorance (Laura) Fluker, Pastor Andrew (Betty) Fluker, Rev. Raymond (Blanche) Fluker and Dorothy Fluker (friend - John Moss); brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Joseph) Johnson, Joan Vaughn, Bonnie (Darrell) Richardson, Connie (Benjamin) Ross, Akilah Tzuberi and Raymond Smith; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.
