William J. Hall "Tony" Obituary

William James Hall, affectionately known as “Tony,” was born on March 25, 1935, to the union of James “Jim” Hall and Inez Whitehead-Hall. He departed this life at the age of 90, having lived a full and remarkable journey.

Tony grew up in the small town of Batavia and later moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. During his years in Batavia, he was well known for his athleticism. He played softball, ping-pong, and bid whist—often winning championships and trophies. He proudly played outfield for the Salt Air Team of Clermont County alongside his cousin, first baseman Robert Olgetree. Tony would fondly say that he and Robert were good enough to have played professionally if not for certain regulatory laws during that era.

Tony dedicated more than 30 years of service to Thompson McConnell Cadillac (TMC), where customers affectionately called him “The Detail Man” for his meticulous care in detailing vehicles. His attention to detail became his signature, and he later turned his craft into a side business, taking pride in honest work and excellence.

Tony accepted the Lord as his Savior at an early age and became a member of First Apostolic Church in Silverton, Ohio, under the late Brother Buller. He believed wholeheartedly that “nobody is better than nobody else,” a principle he demonstrated daily. Whether waving and smiling at strangers during car rides or extending quiet acts of generosity, Tony treated everyone with dignity and kindness.

Tony treasured hunting trips with his close friends, Moe and Hawk, as well as time spent with his brothers, nephews, and extended family. Though described as a homebody by his wife, he deeply valued fellowship and connection.

Tony loved music from a young age and frequented The Blue Wisp Jazz Club, a jazz club in O’Bryonville. He shared a friendship with its late owner, Marjean Wisby.

In 1981, Tony married Joyce Smith-Hall.; from that union came Joyce L. Hall. The two met while working near one another—she in payroll at Frisch’s and he at TMC.  Tony later purchased a modest home in Madisonville for his family. He and Joyce remained married and resided there until his passing.

During his retirement years, Tony enjoyed visiting and playing cards with friends and family. Above all, he loved his good friends and family deeply and valued the strong bonds he shared. His unwavering kindness and gentle spirit will never be forgotten.

He is survived by: His devoted wife, Joyce Smith-Hall; their blended family, Rochelle (Jeff) Davis-Gamble, Anthony L. Davis jr. and, Joyce (Brandon) Hall-Thompson; his granddaughter, De’driana Hall; his great-grandson, Mylo Wilcox; his sisters, Sheree Hall-Lacy (Gerald) and Marlena Hall-Banks, a host of nieces and nephews; a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended relatives, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Allen Hall, Nelson (Burnetta) Hall, Charles Hall, Michael (Claudia) Hall and his sister, Jean Hall.
